In December 2002, I and another SIS student, Matt Grayson, were hired to completely redesign the UT of School of Information Sciences website. The guiding principles of this redesign were ease of navigation and compliance with web standards and content accessibility guidelines. In the midst of this redesign, we were also asked to make the site's design conform to a university standard template. While compliance with content accessibility guidelines was lost, we were able to adhere to web standards and coded the site using valid XHTML and CSS.
Another goal in the redesign was to allow multiple people in SIS to make changes to the site using content management software. This was implemented on a small scale during the redesign and proved successful. In December 2003 Matt Grayson, then SIS Technology Coordinator, switched the entire SIS site over to the Plone content management system. I still maintained the Center for Information Studies section of the SIS site for Dr. Carol Tenopir and became very familiar with Plone.
